O meu trabalho consiste em fazer a conexão entre arte e vida quotidiana. Crio imagens e objetos com formas familiares extraídas do dia a dia. Estou interessada na noção de animismo, onde as coisas que usamos no nosso quotidiano podem ser animadas, respeitadas e amadas. Adoto uma atitude de franqueza na criação das peças, de modo a haver uma sensação de continuidade entre a vida quotidiana e a obra de arte. O sentimento de intimidade é necessário na criação para poder tocar a energia interna. Esse lugar é pessoal, mas ao mesmo tempo vasto.
Tenho que estar aberta para aceder ao núcleo: pode ser universal. Ali, projeto a visão interna no meio para revitalizar esses itens quotidianos em recipientes carregados de significado, portadores de memória de apelo universal. O trabalho sobre o grande papel japonês é mais simples e claro do que outros trabalhos que já fiz. Trata-se da disposição de me entregar à experiência de me render à superfície do papel, que é papel japonês artesanal feito de fibra KOZO. A superfície é macia, mas muito forte. Estas obras são colaborações com o papel.
My work is about making the connection between art and everyday life. I create images and objects that have familiar shapes drawn from daily life. I am interested in the notion of animism that things we use in our daily life can be spirited, respected and loved. I take an attitude of directness in making pieces so that there is a sense of continuity from everyday life to artwork. The feeling of intimacy is necessary in making to be able to touch internal energy. That place is personal, at the same time it is vast. I have to be open to tap into the core: it can be universal. There I project internal vision into the medium to revitalize these everyday items into charged vessels of meaning, memory carriers of universal appeal.
The work on the large Japanese paper is simple and clearer than other works I had done. It’s about willingness to give myself over to the experience of surrendering on the surface of the paper, which is handmade Japanese paper made from KOZO fiber The surface is soft but very strong. These works are collaborations with the paper.
