Varaždin Trio

Davor Brđanović began his musical education in his hometown Varaždin, where he completed primary and secondary music school. He graduated in piano in 1990 from the Academy of Music in Zagreb (under H. Gusek). In 2016, he obtained his doctorate in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb (under R. Miljević-Riđički; K. Koprek). Along with regular training in piano pedagogy (under R. Pröll, K. H. Kämmerling, V. Viardo, Dang Thai S. and others) and concert activity as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist (in Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, Serbia), his scientific research and pedagogical work is focused on music, music pedagogy and psychology and the promotion of education, art and culture. He has published about 20 scientific papers, given around 50 public scientific and expert presentations, and participated in 20 projects. In addition to receiving awards at the Croatian (1st prize) and Yugoslavian (3rd prize) competition (piano) for students and music students (1985), Davor Brđanović is the recipient of three annual awards from the Ministry of Science and Education for being one of the most successful Croatian educators (2019, 2021, 2023). He was also awarded the Ivan Filipović Award of the Republic of Croatia in 2020 for significant achievements in educational activities in the field of scientific and professional work. Davor Brđanović is a teacher and advisor at the Varaždin School of Music. Additionally, he holds the scientific title of senior scientific associate.

Jakov Šredl (Varaždin, 1997) received his primary and secondary music education, majoring in violin, at the Varaždin School of Music under the guidance of teacher Miljenko Pohulek. During this period, he achieved notable results at violin competitions as a soloist: 1st prize at the regional level in 2010 and 2012, 2nd prize at the national level in 2010, 1st prize at the national level in 2012, and 2nd prize at the international level in 2010 at the Antonio Salieri competition in Legnago, Italy. He also won two prizes at the national competition of chamber ensembles in 2010 and 2012. Among his more significant performances were those at the Varaždin Baroque Evenings in 2012, 2014, and 2015 with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra.

Jakov Šredl continued his education at the Music Academy of the University of Zagreb in the class of Professor Anđelko Krpan, graduating in 2021. As a violin student, he performed as a soloist, and with chamber ensembles and orchestras. Noteworthy among his performances were several with a string quartet during Croatia's presidency of the European Union. In 2017, he became a member of the ESTA string orchestra, with whom he performed concerts in Strasbourg, Valletta and Bern. During his studies, he won the 3rd prize at the Rudolf Matz international competition. He also received two rector's awards for his performances in W. A. Mozart's opera Cosi fan tutte and J. Massenet's Cendrillion. He enhanced his pedagogical competencies at seminars and master classes (with professors Krpan, Martinić Jerčić, Breuninger) and at a seminar for teachers of string instruments in Valletta (European String Teachers Association). During his studies, he was a permanent member of the HGM orchestra, Camerata Zagreb, the Zagreb Youth Philharmonic, and worked at the Music Information Center. He is currently employed as a violin and chamber music teacher at the Varaždin School of Music and regularly performs as a member of the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra.

Cellist Matej Ilčić (Varaždin, 1995) completed his primary and secondary music education in his hometown uner the guidance of Darij Milković. He graduated from the Arts Academy in Split, studying under Mihovil Karuza.

During his education, he participated in many seminars, projects and competitions. He performed as a soloist with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra and the Croatian Musical Youth Orchestra. He won several prizes, including 1st prize at the regional competition for music and dance students for chamber ensembles in the category of piano trios, 1st prize at the state competition for chamber ensembles in Opatija, and 3rd prize prize at the regional competition in Velika Gorica. In 2017, he performed with a string quartet in the Vinko Lesić cycle for young musicians under the direction of Professor Eugenia Epstein.

Following his education, he began his pedagogical career as a cello teacher at Varaždin School of Music. He also started performing with the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra and participated in numerous projects and performances at the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin.
