Repair as Shapeshift
Online Lecture by Bayo Akomolafe / ‘On the Wolf's Trail' - Session 6

Can we risk a consideration of repairing as fixing problems, as pulling things together, when everything is falling apart? As white stability hollows out, it seems critical to investigate the notions of care deployed in the gesture of repair. In this talk, Dr. Akomolafe rethinks repair as 're-pair', as pairing again, as a sensuous, posthumanist, alliance-building inquiry that calls for different kinds of experimentation at the edges of the colonizing force called the "Human".
Bayo Akomolafe is a writer and lecturer from western Nigeria, currently living in Chennai, India. The convener of the concepts of ‘postactivism’, ‘transraciality’ and ‘ontofugitivity’, Dr. Bayo Akomolafe is a widely celebrated international speaker, teacher, public intellectual, essayist and author of two books, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) and We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak.
As Visionary Founder and Elder of The Emergence Network and Chief Host of the widely popular online-offline course/festival series, We Will Dance with Mountains, Bayo curates an earth-wide project for the re-calibration of our ability to respond to civilizational crisis – a project framed within a material feminist/posthumanist/postactivist ethos and inspired by Yoruba indigenous cosmologies. He considers this a shared art – exploring the edges of the intelligible, dancing with posthumanist ideas, dabbling in the mysteries of quantum mechanics and the liberating sermon of an ecofeminism text, and talking with others about how to host a festival of radical silence on a street in London – and part of his inner struggle to regain a sense of rootedness to his community.
Bayo Akomolafe is a recipient of the 2021 New Thought Walden Award, meant to honor those who use empowering spiritual ideas and philosophies to change lives and make our planet a better place.

Along four years, sessions will be led by practitioners from the fields of arts, environmental humanities, and post-colonial studies, and embrace topics such as mutualism and reciprocity, working towards the repair ancestral relations.

Podemos arriscar considerar a reparação como solução de problemas, como recomposição de coisas, quando tudo está desmoronando? À medida que a estabilidade branca se esvazia, parece fundamental investigar as noções de cuidado utilizadas no gesto de reparação. Nesta palestra, o Dr. Akomolafe repensa o reparo como 're-emparelhamento', como emparelhamento novamente, como uma investigação sensual, pós-humanista, de construção de alianças que exige diferentes tipos de experimentação nas bordas da força colonizadora chamada de "Humano".
Bayo Akomolafe é escritor e conferencista do oeste da Nigéria e atualmente mora em Chennai, na Índia. Criador dos conceitos de 'pós-ativismo', 'transracialidade' e 'ontofugitividade', Dr. Bayo Akomolafe é um palestrante internacional amplamente celebrado, professor, intelectual público, ensaísta e autor de dois livros, These Wilds Beyond our Fences: Letters to My Daughter on Humanity’s Search for Home (North Atlantic Books) e We Will Tell our Own Story: The Lions of Africa Speak.
Como visionário fundador da The Emergence Network e principal apresentador da popular série de cursos/festivais on-line e off-line, We Will Dance with Mountains, Bayo é curador de um projeto mundial para a recalibração de nossa capacidade de responder à crise civilizacional – um projeto enquadrado num ethos material feminista/pós-humanista/pós-ativista e inspirado nas cosmologias indígenas iorubás. Considera isto uma arte partilhada – explorar os limites do inteligível, dançar com ideias pós-humanistas, mergulhar nos mistérios da mecânica quântica e no sermão libertador de um texto ecofeminista, e conversar com outros sobre como organizar um festival de silêncio radical numa rua em Londres – como parte de sua luta interna para recuperar um senso de enraizamento na sua comunidade.
Bayo Akomolafe recebeu o prêmio New Thought Walden 2021, destinado a homenagear aqueles que usam ideias e filosofias espirituais fortalecedoras para mudar vidas e tornar o nosso planeta num lugar melhor.
