As nossas caminhadas pelo campo levam-nos a lugares e também a encontros com ramos e galhos, que por vezes apanhamos do chão e trazemos connosco. As pedras e troncos – pequenos e grandes, são como memórias materializadas que se juntam às imagens mentais, auditivas, olfativas, meteorológicas, fotográficas. 
É mais tarde, no atelier, que juntamos umas com outras, para fazer coisas novas. A criação destes animais passa por essa prática, das relações subtis, entre elementos. A simplicidade deste gesto que junta é próxima do ato de caminhar: um passo depois do outro. E sendo esculturas que são parte de uma instalação, estes animais vivem também uma vida fotográfica. Não é uma mudança de estado, mas mais um continuum, uma nova possibilidade de condição, uma mudança de estação.
Aos Maus Hábitos trazemos uma vista do Gerês, como a vê um caminhante noturno, quando com uma lanterna o caminho alumia. Esta luz que o nosso corpo faz incidir sobre o que está à sua frente tanto revela quanto evoca. A ela acrescendo uma pequena ironia, ao colocá-la neste dispositivo lumínico específico. É que na paisagem citadina, o mupi apresenta objetos, explica possibilidades e vende sonhos, como aparições.
Cremos que todos sabemos o que é o perscrutar atento do território, em busca dos animais. Às vezes parece que estão em todo o lado, outras não se avista nenhum. Ainda haverá destes bichos, lá por essas serras? questionava Rosa Ramalho, a propósito dos seus animais. Os tempos que vivemos sublinham as nossas dúvidas. Se não os vemos, estarão já extintos? Por vezes temos mesmo que os inventar. 
Sobre os artistas 
Daniel Moreira e Rita Castro Neves vivem e trabalham entre o Porto e a Beira Alta. Daniel Moreira é licenciado em Arquitectura, iniciando em 2000 um percurso multidisciplinar entre a arquitectura e as artes plásticas. Rita Castro Neves, após terminar o Curso Avançado de Fotografia do Ar.Co em Lisboa e o Master in Fine Art da Slade School of Fine Art de Londres, inicia uma atividade artística regular, de docência e de curadoria. 
Com percursos artísticos separados, começaram a trabalhar em colaboração com Laking, que realizaram em 2015 a convite do espaço artístico finlandês Oksasenkatu 11, iniciando um projeto longo a propósito da representação da paisagem, em que refletem com o desenho, a fotografia e o vídeo, de forma instalada, sobre colaboração artística, diferentes técnicas e culturas artísticas, território, escala e percurso. Desde então realizam diversas exposições individuais e coletivas, bem como residências artísticas.  Em 2020 terminam o projeto de recuperação da Escola de Macieira, uma antiga escola primária do Plano dos Centenários na Serra de São Macário, na Beira Alta, para aí iniciarem um projeto de reflexão sobre cultura serrana, a natureza e o rural, e logo sobre ecologia, biopolítica e preservação ambiental.

Our walks through the countryside take us to places as well as to encounters with branches and twigs. Sometimes we pick them and bring with us. The stones and trunks - small and large, are like materialized memories that join the mental, auditory, olfactory, meteorological and photographic images. 
It is later, in the studio, that we bring them together, making new things. The creation of these animals relies on the practice of creating subtle relationships between different elements. The simplicity of this gesture of joining pieces together is close to the act of walking: one step after the other. These are sculptures that once were part of an installation, and that now also enjoy a photographic life. It is not a change of state, but rather a continuum, the possibility of a new status, a change of season.
To Maus Hábitos we bring a view of the Northern region of Gerês, as a night walker sees it, when with a lantern the path is illuminated. This light that shines on what is in front of us, reveals as much as it evokes. Placing it in this specific luminous device, a small irony it at stake. Indeed, in the cityscape, the mupi presents objects, explains possibilities and sells dreams, like apparitions.
We believe that most of us know what it is like to carefully scrutinize the territory in search of animals. Sometimes it seems they're everywhere, sometimes you can't see any. The times we live in underline our doubts. If we don't see them, are they extinct? Sometimes we need to invent them. 
About the artists 
Daniel Moreira e Rita Castro Neves live and work between Porto and the Beira Alta region. Daniel Moreira holds a BA in Architecture, starting in 2000 a multidisciplinary path between architecture and fine art. Rita Castro Neves, after finishing her photography training at the Lisbon’s Ar.Co School of Visual Arts and the Master in Fine Art at the Slade School of Art in London, has been exhibiting regularly, teaching and curating. 
With separate artistic paths the duo started collaborating in 2015 with Laking, following an invitation by the Finish art space Oksasenkatu 11, and initiating a long project on the representation of landscape, using drawing, photography and video – in installation, to think about artistic collaboration, different techniques and artistic cultures, territory, scale and journey. 
Since then Rita and Daniel have been exhibiting extensively in solo and group shows, as well as working in the context of artistic residencies. In 2020 the duo finished the renovation project of the Escola de Macieira, a former elementary school of the Portuguese dictatorial Plano dos Centenários, in the Serra de São Macário, in Beira Alta, where they have started a project on mountain culture, nature and the rural, ecology, biopolitics and environmental preservation.
